While living in the Bluffton and Hilton Head area of South Carolina, they became closely connected with Innovative Concrete Coatings and Penntek Industrial Coatings through longtime friends John and Suzanne Paull. Brian assisted with garage and patio coating installations and quickly discovered how rewarding it was to completely transform old, worn concrete surfaces into clean, finished showpieces in just one day. Aileen became heavily involved in the sales and marketing side of the business, helping build experience with Penntek products and customer service. Eventually, the desire to return to North Florida, spend more time with family, and build something together inspired the launch of Cross Creek Concrete Coatings.

Cross Creek itself is located in Alachua County and connects Orange Lake and Lochloosa Lake, an area closely associated with author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Yearling. For Aileen, visiting the Rawlings homesite during her University of Florida years became a meaningful memory that helped shape the vision behind the company’s identity.
